-- First location in California to select leading edge intraoperative MRI capability --
WINNIPEG, Nov. 15 /CNW/ - (TSX: IM) - IMRIS Inc. (TSX: IM) ("IMRIS" or the "Company") today announced the sale of the IMRISneuro system to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center ("UCSF Medical Center") based in San Francisco, California.
The fully integrated multi-room system at UCSF Medical Center will feature on-demand intraoperative MR imaging capabilities designed to assist surgeons in improving outcomes for patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures such as tumor resection.
"The IMRIS suite will provide important new capabilities for our neurosurgical team," said Mitchel Berger, MD, chair of the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery. "In our commitment to providing the best care to our patients, we consider powerful imaging technology an important partner in a number of our surgical methods."
The IMRISneuro system will include a wide bore 1.5T MR scanner operating in a two-room configuration providing intraoperative MR imaging on demand in the operating theater. As well, when not in use for intraoperative imaging, the MR scanner is available for diagnostic imaging.
Designed specifically for neurosurgery, IMRISneuro provides timely images during procedures to assist clinicians in making better decisions for improved patient outcomes. IMRISneuro is the only system of its kind that does not require the patient to be moved for scanning, so the optimum patient positioning is always maintained. Clinical workflow and access to the patient is not impacted at all, as the MR scanner enters the operating suite and is then removed completely from the operating room when imaging is complete. This ensures a high degree of safety for the patient and preservation of the ideal surgical environment.
"UCSF Medical Center is one of the top hospitals in the field of neurology and neurosurgery, and has one of the largest brain tumor treatment programs in the U.S.," said David Graves, IMRIS Chairman and CEO. "We are pleased that UCSF Medical Center has selected IMRISneuro and look forward to seeing its leading edge intraoperative image guidance capabilities made available to patients in California."
