BURLINGTON, ON, Nov. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) announced today that it has appointed John Murray as the new President & Chief Executive Officer, replacing interim President & CEO Wendy Kelley, effective November 5, 2018.
The ICCRC board thanks Wendy Kelley for her leadership during this transition period and wishes her well in her future endeavours.
John Murray is a lawyer with over 25 years of experience in regulated sectors. As the Registrar at the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA), the statutory regulator for Ontario's 88,000 CPAs, John oversaw all aspects of member, student and firm admission to the profession, public accounting licensing and ongoing compliance. While at the CPA (and its predecessor, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario), John also served as the Vice President of Professional Standards where he worked to integrate and centralize professional standards and regulatory requirements, including the complete overhaul of the complaints investigation and professional discipline processes to support member participation and achieve greater transparency and accountability for consumers.
John Murray was at the CPA during a vital time of transition. He was part of a senior executive team that facilitated and managed the integration of three professional accounting organizations under the new CPA designation. During this time, he developed and led an effective communications campaign to inform the members and the public of this merger, and he played an integral role in the development and execution of an integrated change management program to help transition the organization into its new role.
Murray's experience and skills are well suited to lead the Council during an exciting time of transition and growth. The Council recently released a Strategic Plan for 2018-2021 that describes a vision to be recognized by the public, governments and members as the trusted regulator in immigration and citizenship consulting services. In achieving this vision, ICCRC outlined three strategic goals: increasing regulatory oversight, improving professional standards and strengthening stakeholder relationships that will enhance public confidence and trust.
"Our Federal Government has acknowledged that effective immigration policy has been and will be key to Canada's continued development. The Council and its Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants and Regulated International Student Advisors will continue to provide effective, ethical support to individuals and families as they pursue their Canadian dreams," said John Murray, new President & CEO.
"The Board is excited to welcome John to the Council where his extensive regulatory experience, particularly in the registration and professional standards areas will help ICCRC reach its vision. We look forward to his leadership as we continue to develop new programs," said Chris Daw, Chair of the Board of Directors.
Murray graduated from the University of Toronto and has law degrees from the University of Windsor and York University. He is a Band Sergeant Major with the 48th Highlanders of Canada in the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve and also serves on the Board of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
ICCRC is the national regulatory body that serves and protects the public by overseeing licensed immigration and citizenship consultants and international student advisors.
ICCRC's federal mandate stems from the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Citizenship Act which require anyone providing Canadian immigration or citizenship advice or representation for a fee or other consideration to be a member in good standing of ICCRC. Exceptions are members in good standing of a law society in Canada or the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
Individuals providing Canadian immigration/citizenship services abroad are subject to Canadian law even if they reside outside of Canada.
