IABC/Toronto's OVATION Awards Recognizes 'Pearls of Wisdom in Communication' in the GTA

TORONTO, May 31, 2017 /CNW/ - The Toronto chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC/Toronto) concluded its 2017 OVATION Awards by recognizing the finest examples of communications talent, projects and campaigns undertaken by the GTA's communications industry over the past year.

The gala evening, themed 'Pearls of Wisdom in Communication,' had over 300 guests in attendance and was hosted by Jennifer Valentyne, the former Breakfast Television host.

Elaborating on the event's theme, Megan Hooper, president of IABC/Toronto, said: "Wisdom is an essential facet in all responsible communication initiatives. As such, all business communicators must show this professional quality as they meet client objectives as well as the various needs of our society. This year, IABC/Toronto was especially pleased to have received more than 200 submissions from individual communications practitioners, agencies and corporations in the GTA that received 95 awards for their innovative approach and outstanding impact."

In total, 46 Awards of Excellence, 49 Awards of Merit and six Awards of Distinction were recognized along with presentations for the People's Choice Awards and the Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year Award. The 2017 Bobbie Resnick Student of the Year was awarded to Bruce Chen, a Humber College student. This award recognizes a student from an accredited institution who demonstrates excellence in communications and the greatest potential to be the best all-round future professional.

Now in its 31st year, the IABC/Toronto OVATION Awards Program offers the communications profession an opportunity to present its best work. Entries are judged by a panel of senior communications professionals. Two separate judges carefully review each entry independently and then jointly review the submissions and results. The judging criteria for the submissions include clear objectives, originality and demonstrated results.
