OTTAWA, Nov. 12, 2015 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa today announced that it outshined its fundraising goal, raising a record $281,485 for its 2015 United Way Ottawa workplace campaign.
The results were announced at Hydro Ottawa's Annual Employee Forum and Recognition Event where employees were honoured for workplace achievements and community involvement.
The funds were derived from employee donations and company fundraising events, including a golf tournament, online auction and the result of designated days whereby crews donated portions of their overtime pay. For every dollar raised by employees, Hydro Ottawa matched by allocating corporate donations to Hydro Ottawa's Brighter Tomorrows Fund - a community investment program designed to support frontline agencies that serve people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to invest in energy-efficient technologies or products.
- In 2014, Hydro Ottawa's workplace campaign raised a (then) record $254,427.
- In total, Hydro Ottawa's workplace campaigns have raised more than $2 million since 2001.
- Earlier this month, Hydro Ottawa announced eight local agencies that collectively received $145,000 from the company's Brighter Tomorrows Fund and nearly $18,000 in energy conservation incentives from the province. Since 2011, the fund has invested nearly $675,000 in 62 non-profit projects.
- Contributing to the well-being of the community has always been a part of Hydro Ottawa's core mandate. For every customer that registers for E-Billing, the company will make a $5 donation to the Max Keeping Fund for Kids, a fund managed by the CHEO Foundation (until December 31, 2015).
"Every year I say that we have the best employees at Hydro Ottawa. Our United Way workplace campaign is a great example of why I continue to believe that. Every year, we continue to outperform and surpass the previous year's amazing campaign. That's because our employees understand just how important the United Way's work is. Their generosity, whether it be financial giving or volunteering their time in the community is second-to-none. I'm grateful and humbled to be part of an organization with such caring and engaged people. They truly do power our communities and are heroes in my books."
-Bryce Conrad, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hydro Ottawa
"We are grateful to Hydro Ottawa and their employees for their support of the work of United Way in our community. Through our combined efforts, we are changing lives for the better for some of our city's most vulnerable people including at-risk children and youth, isolated seniors, people with disabilities and homeless youth."
-Michael Allen, President and CEO, United Way Ottawa
