Hydro One invests $19 million to improve electricity infrastructure in the City of St. Catharines

TORONTO, April 29, 2015 /CNW/ - Hydro One announced today a multi-year, $19 million upgrade to transmission infrastructure in the City of St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake. The refurbishment project will ensure the continued supply of safe and reliable power and increase capacity to support new growth in the area.

As part of this investment, Hydro One has started upgrading critical equipment that is nearing its end of life at Glendale Transformer Station (TS), located in St. Catharines. The refurbishment program will also include the replacement of conductor (wire), insulators and hardware components on the transmission line between Decew Falls Generating Station and Sir Adam Beck Generating Station #1.

"The refurbishment program is part of Hydro One's ongoing investment to upgrade and maintain critical electrical infrastructure," said Jamie Bignell, Superintendent, Provincial Lines, Hydro One. "These investments will improve reliability for our existing customers and meet the needs of the area as it continues to grow."

Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 29,000 km high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 122,000 km low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario.
