TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2017 /CNW/ - Crickstart, the Canadian startup that makes foods with organic Ontario-farmed crickets, invites the public to sample its new line of products at the 95th Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, which runs November 3-12, 2017, at Exhibition Place, Toronto.
As the world's largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show, the Royal Fair features a wide array of natural, locally-sourced foods and offers guests both classic and innovative culinary experiences. Crickstart will be at booth #1924 in hall A.
"This is our first time at the Royal Fair and we can't wait for people to try our new products," says Daniel Novak, Co-founder at Crickstart. "We'll be offering samples of our bars and crackers, all made with cricket powder and certified organic.
"We think crickets are great on their own, but to ease people into the idea we're making delicious and familiar foods from roasted crickets that have been ground into a flour," he added. "But don't take our word for it — come try!"
Crickstart established a national reach by selling online in the last year and is now rolling out in health food stores across Canada following an enthusiastic response from retailers and consumers alike.
"Crickets are an unbelievably nutritious and sustainable food - and we think the idea challenges our preconceived notions of food in a way that people find compelling."
Cricket powder contains twice as much protein as beef and is packed with Vitamin B12, key minerals and prebiotic fibre which contributes to a healthy gut. Crickets are also extremely efficient protein converters, requiring far less water and feed than used in livestock farming and emitting a tiny fraction of the greenhouse gases.
"People often refer to crickets as being the food of the future, but they've actually been eaten in many cultures around the world for millennia. And now they're organically farmed in Ontario and available right here and now, in the form really tasty bars and crackers."
Crickstart makes delicious natural food products with organic Canadian-farmed crickets, a sustainable, high-protein superfood. The firm currently produces food bars, crackers, and smoothie mixes. For more information or to order Crickstart products, visit crickstart.ca.
