Hotwire Unveils Third Annual List of 10 Egg-citing Canadian Easter Destinations

U.S. Cities like New York and Chicago Attract Canadians Travelling Further from Home this Year

SAN FRANCISCO, April 8, 2014 /CNW/ - Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the top 10 most popular Easter destinations for Canadian travellers, based on hotel bookings. With many Canadians enjoying a holiday weekend (either for Good Friday, Easter or both), it's the perfect opportunity to "hop" away on a spring vacation. Easter abroad is the trend for Canadian travellers this year, as major U.S. cities like New York and Chicago increase in popularity to take top spots, and destinations like Portland and Washington, D.C. make their way on the list for the first time.

New York reclaimed the number one spot this year, overtaking the ever-popular Toronto. Vancouver moved up a spot from last year to third, while Chicago shot up five spots to fourth on the list, unseating Montreal, which dropped down to fifth. The "City by the Bay," San Francisco, rejoins the list as the sixth most popular destination, while newcomer Washington, D.C. places seventh. Rounding out the list are Las Vegas (down two spots to eight), Portland (making its debut at number nine) and Ottawa – a newcomer and the tenth most popular city.

To compile the list, Hotwire.com took a look at the top 10 most popular destinations as booked by Canadian travellers over the Easter holiday:
