Hotwire Reveals List of Top Five Domestic Deal Destinations over Canada Day Weekend

Of the top 25 most popular cities for the holiday, these spots are offering the largest hotel price drops

SAN FRANCISCO, June 19, 2014 /CNW/ - Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today unveiled the top five affordable, domestic destinations for travellers booking hotels over Canada Day weekend. Of the top 25 most popular cities for the holiday, Niagara Falls, Charlottetown, Banff, Quebec City and Montreal are showing great price drops on hotel bookings. Even though all of these cities are in peak season, visitors can expect to pay shoulder season prices and save up to 18 percent compared to last year.

"Canada Day is one of the biggest holidays of the year for many of us, which makes it a popular time to take a long weekend getaway and celebrate somewhere nearby," said Pierre Etienne-Chartier, vice president of the Hotwire Group. "However, while many are planning to head to large cities with larger price tags like Toronto and Vancouver, there are other delightful spots across the country that are offering fantastic deals and experiences."

Niagara Falls tops the charts this year with a price drop of 18 percent when compared to 2013, while the city of Charlottetown on the south side of Prince Edward Island comes in second with a 17 percent drop. Meanwhile, the more western city of Banff comes in third with a 10 percent drop. The waterfront destinations of Quebec City and Montreal both round out the list with nine and four percent drops, respectively.
