Hotwire Reveals Canadian Hotel Rate Report for November 2012
Hotels are Pricing More Competitively this Year as the Winter Season Approaches, Creating Big Savings in Cities Across the Country
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the November 2012 Hotwire® Canadian Hotel Rate Report, which features the top five cities in Canada where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that can maximize their travel dollars.
For the second consecutive month, Moncton leads the savings list with an eight percent price drop. Hotels here have recently added inventory on sites like Hotwire creating more price competition that's bringing winter visitors more options and better savings. The Hub City offers a host of theatrical events, museums and shopping for travellers seeking an array of experiences. Whether it's a night at the Atlantic Ballet Theatre, a stop at an ÉCONOMUSÉE for some pottery spinning or a visit to catch the twice daily Tidal Bore, Moncton has something for everyone.
Next up, Regina joins the list for the first time in Canadian Rate Report history, coming in second with a seven percent price drop. Although chilly this time of year, the capital city of Saskatchewan is home to Wascana Lake, a popular spot for ice skaters in the winter, as well as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training Academy Grounds.
Whistler is on the list for the fourth consecutive month, moving up one spot to third place with a six percent drop. This mountain town is late in its shoulder season and approaching its peak winter months. Yet, hoteliers there are increasing their online inventory and as such, they're aggressively pricing to attract travelers. However, the low prices aren't expected to last once the snow kicks in and winter sport enthusiasts flock to the town, so if folks are thinking about a visit, they should book soon for savings.
Charlottetown returns to the list for the fifth consecutive month, this time in fourth with a five percent drop, and Toronto appears for the first time since May 2012 with a three percent price drop. Canada's largest city didn't get as much traffic from the U.S. this month due to the big political elections, and although citywide events may cause prices to rise in late November, they are expected to drop again come December.
Hotwire is able to find great deals because it works with hotels, airlines and car rental companies to fill unsold inventory. This means customers can find incredibly low deals on Hotwire, especially in cities like those on the Hotel Rate Report where prices are unseasonably low.
When compared to the same time last year, the top five hotel price reductions for August 2012 include:

"With hotels across the country bringing more of their inventory to sites like Hotwire and pricing more competitively, we're seeing new value destinations emerge like Regina, as well as big discounts in ever-popular destinations like Whistler," said Pierre-Etienne Chartier, vice president of the Hotwire Group. "What this means for the traveller is better deals, more options and the opportunity to take more trips."
About the Hotwire Hotel Rate Report
The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report will run results during the first week of each month. Results are calculated by looking at Hotwire stay dates for select regions in the current month, and comparing prices in the current month against Hotwire prices in the same month in the prior year. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories. The prices in the chart above are examples for a particular star rating category within that market, and actual prices may be higher or lower than the example that is provided.
