<p><location>SAN FRANCISCO</location>, <chron>Nov. 16</chron> /CNW/ -- Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the November Hotwire® Canadian Hotel Rate Report. This monthly report features the top five cities in <location>Canada</location> where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that will maximize their travel dollars. This month, Niagara Falls and <location>Quebec</location> City top the November Rate Report with rate drops of 19 percent, nearly double their drops as compared to last month. Also making the list are the tourist friendly destinations Victoria, <location>Halifax</location> and <location>Montreal</location> (percent drops of 11, 9 and 8, respectively).</p>
<p/>
<p>Heading into the winter months, hotel rates in <location>Canada</location> usually begin to bottom out. Because hotels begin discounting heavily this time of year, the year-over-year price drops for hotels tend to stabilize, as it's difficult to drop rates much lower. However, with business and leisure travel trailing off in November and hotels still trying to make up for losses they experienced during the economic downturn last year, many popular Canadian destinations have slashed rates more than they normally would for this time of year. This means that budget-conscious consumers can visit these traditional tourist hubs at a fraction of the cost and when tourists are minimal.</p>
<p/>
<p>Hotwire is able to find great deals because it works with hotels, airlines and car rental companies to fill unsold inventory, which means that customers will find deals that they won't see anywhere else, especially in cities like those on the Hotel Rate Report where prices are unseasonably low.</p>
<p/>
<p>When compared to the same time last year, the top five hotel price reductions for <chron>November 2009</chron> include:</p>

<p>"November is traditionally considered the off-season for popular Canadian cities such as Niagara Falls and <location>Montreal</location>," said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. "And with hotels still hurting from the economy, these cities are cutting their already low rates again to try and lure tourists back. This means better deals, more attentive service by hospitality staff and much shorter lines for popular attractions throughout these locales."</p>

    About the Hotwire Hotel Rate Report

</pre>
<p>The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report will run results during the first week of each month. Results are calculated by looking at Hotwire stay dates for select regions in the current month, and comparing prices in the current month against Hotwire prices in the same month in the prior year. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories. The prices in the chart above are examples for a particular star rating category within that market, and actual prices may be higher or lower than the example that is provided.</p>
