Hotwire Reveals Annual List of Top Ten Popular Destinations for Victoria Day Weekend

Domestic Cities Dominate with Affordable Hotel Stays over the Holiday

SAN FRANCISCO, May 7, 2014 /CNW/ - Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the top 10 most popular destinations for Canadian travellers booking hotels over Victoria Day Weekend. This year, more Canadians are staying close to home, with domestic destinations like Montreal, Toronto Vancouver and Ottawa taking four of the top five spots on the list. Meanwhile, New York continues its reign as the most popular destination over the holiday.

"The majority of hotel prices in Canadian cities are down from last year, so it's no surprise that many travelers are planning to keep their celebrations local," said Pierre Etienne-Chartier, Vice President of the Hotwire Group. New York maintains its position in the number one spot this year, as does Montreal in the number two spot. Toronto jumps up to third from last year's fifth place spot, while Vancouver, Ottawa, and Minneapolis all drop down a spot to fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Meanwhile, Chicago climbs this year's list to take seventh and Las Vegas moves down to eighth. Rounding out the list is newcomer San Francisco in the number nine spot and Quebec City, down two spots, in tenth.
