Honoré-Mercier Bridge - MAJOR WORK for eight weeks starting June 20

LONGUEUIL, QC, June 3, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to announce that half the Honoré-Mercier Bridge will be closed for eight weeks from Friday, June 19, at 9:00 p.m. to Monday, August 17, at 5:00 a.m. One lane will be open per direction while work is carried out.

During this period, major work will take place day and night to replace a section of the deck on the federal portion of the Honoré Mercier Bridge, as well as to replace expansion joints, and to carry out paving and marking work.

Major Preparatory Work

Complete closures of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge may be needed at night before June 20 in preparation for the worksite mobilization. These closures will request regular night and weekend closures with one line per direction. The closures will be announced on our blog www.mercierbridge.ca as soon as confirmed.

Details of eight weeks hindrances on the Honoré Mercier Bridge

Speed limit will be 50 km/hr.

• One lane open towards Montreal (width 3.3 meters).
• One lane open towards the South Shore (width 3 meters).
• Service road between Route 132 > 138. Detour by Old Malone Road.
• Service road between Route 138 > 132 open.
• Access ramp from Châteauguay towards Montreal closed.
  • Detour by the service road 138 > 132 and the access ramp from La Prairie.
• Access ramp from La Prairie towards Montreal open.
• Exit towards La Prairie open.
• Exit towards Châteauguay open.
• Exits on Montreal shore open.

Trucks prohibited during rush hour

In order to facilitate car traffic, trucks will be prohibited according to the following schedule:

• From 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. > towards Montreal > trucks prohibited
• From 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. > towards the South Shore > trucks prohibited

Public transit encouraged – dedicated lane created

During this work, road users are strongly encouraged to use the various types of public transit and favour carpooling. A reserved bus lane is in service to priorised public transportation.

Detour via the Champlain Bridge

• Access will be easier before 6 a.m. towards Montréal; during the summer, the Champlain Bridge has reserve capacity early in the morning
• The Champlain Bridge will also be easier to access via the on-ramp coming from Route 132 West
