OTTAWA, May 7, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) is pleased to announce Holcim Canada is a Gold level CaGBC National Sponsor for the second year in a row. Through its National Sponsorship program, the CaGBC is providing the green building industry with opportunities to support the Council's goal of accelerating the transformation of the built environment to high-performing, healthy green buildings, homes and communities throughout Canada.
"Holcim has been a longtime supporter of CaGBC in advancing sustainable construction practices and a trusted partner on various initiatives over the past six years. Support from innovative, forward-thinking companies like Holcim is critical in helping to accelerate our mission throughout Canada, "said Thomas Mueller, President and CEO of the CaGBC.
As a Gold level National Sponsor, Holcim Canada is also a lead sponsor of the CaGBC National Conference 'Building Lasting Change' held in Toronto this year, as well as supporting chapter events in Ontario and Quebec. The company has also worked with the CaGBC to encourage Canadian sustainable construction projects to be recognized globally via the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction, a $2 million (USD) international competition recognizing and rewarding visions and projects in sustainable construction.
"Holcim works diligently to ensure that sustainable development is integrated into the business and into our thinking. We have a responsibility to drive sustainability by providing innovative solutions that will enable the industry to design, build and operate sustainably. Partnering with the CaGBC allows us to multiply our efforts and work together to help drive sustainable development awareness and behavior change in Canada," said Ruksana Mirza, Vice President of Sustainable Development, Holcim (Canada) Inc.
Building Lasting Change 2014 will explore the value of green through the lens of sustainable building, real estate, and neighbourhood development. The conference will feature innovative and thought provoking speakers coupled with continuing education credits and great networking opportunities. Over 100 exhibitors will be on hand to explore innovative solutions to sustainable development. Some of the sustainable solutions Holcim Canada has featured at past CaGBC conferences include the use of recycled aggregates, pervious concrete pavement, and Portland Limestone cement which produces a strong and durable concrete with up to 10 per cent fewer CO2 emissions.
The CaGBC (www.cagbc.org) is the leading national industry organization advancing green building and sustainable community development practices. We work closely with our member organizations who are involved in the design, construction and operation of buildings and homes in an effort to make every building greener. The CaGBC reduces environmental impacts from the built environment through education/training, building certification, advocacy and information sharing. The CaGBC is the license holder for the LEED green building rating system in Canada. In addition to LEED, the CaGBC also supports the Living Building Challenge, Passive House Standard and EcoDistricts in Canada.
