FORT MILL, SC, Nov. 28, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Domtar Corporation (NYSE: UFS) (TSX: UFS) announced today that the final fundraising tally for the company's second annual Vendor Partnership Meeting and Charity Golf Event is $151,079. This year's event benefited Classroom Central, a non-profit organization that provides students with school supplies they need to succeed in the classroom. Functioning as a Free Store for teachers, Classroom Central is an invaluable resource for over 200 high-poverty schools in six school districts in North and South Carolina.
"Hitting the links and partnering with our vendors to show our support for Classroom Central's important work was a delight," noted Domtar President and CEO John D. Williams. "Raising funds for deserving organizations in the Carolinas is a tangible, meaningful way to give back to the community where we live and work."
The charity golf event was held on October 19th at the Ballantyne Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was kicked off the previous evening with a reception that included a business update from Domtar`s John Williams along with inspiring words from Jill Scott, Executive Director of Classroom Central.
In total, the 32 vendor teams raised almost $100,000 which Domtar then topped up for the grand total of $151,079 that will be donated to Classroom Central to help them distribute much-needed school supplies to 9,000 educators.
