Event has raised more than $1 million over six years
TORONTO, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - More than 150 leaders of Canada's hedge fund industry gathered at the Royal Ontario Museum November 4th for the sixth annual Open Your Hearts to the Children Gala.
The special fundraising evening organized by Hedge Funds Care Canada raised more than C$130,000 for the prevention and treatment of child abuse, bringing the amount the organization has raised for this worthwhile cause to date to more than C$1 million.
"We are very pleased that all proceeds from the event will go to support local and national foundations that support the prevention and treatment of child abuse," said Hedge Funds Care Canada President and Director Corey Goldman. "The dollars raised this year will have a very positive impact in fighting the scourge of child abuse in this country," he said.
The evening's program included recognition of the Child Development Institute, an important Hedge Funds Care Canada grant recipient, which is celebrating its 100th year of outstanding service to Canada's children. A special award was also presented to Sprott Asset Management in appreciation of their role as Hedge Funds Care Canada's lead supporter and largest donor.
Guests at the event enjoyed the fabulous cuisine of the ROM's C-5 restaurant as well as a tour of the museum's popular Vanity Fair photo exhibition.
Event Chair Meghan MacNicol said: "The success of this year's event reflects an overwhelming response from the hedge fund community and the generous sponsorship support of Sprott Asset Management, Scotia Capital, MAN Investments, Polar Securities, Marret Asset Management, Mapleridge Capital, TD Securities, RBC Capital Markets, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arrow Hedge Partners Inc., as well as the individual attendees and donors."
About Hedge Funds Care
Hedge Funds Care Canada was established in 2003 as a way for the Canadian hedge fund community to give back to organizations that provide prevention services to children and families who are at risk for abuse and/or neglect, and treatment to children who have been victims of abuse.
Hedge Funds Care Canada is part of a global alliance that began 11 years ago in New York and has grown into an international nonprofit organization. To date, Hedge Funds Care has distributed over $21 million through more than 600 grants among its various chapters in Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Denver, London, the South Florida region and the Cayman Islands.
Hedge Funds Care is proud to be the only business group solely devoted to the prevention and treatment of child abuse, and in 11 years has made a powerful contribution to saving children. Because of the shame associated with child abuse, it remains a dramatically under-resourced and rarely discussed problem.
