TORONTO, Nov. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - On November 25, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will award Hatch the 2015 Outstanding Corporation award for philanthropy. Hatch is the first engineering, technology and project delivery firm to receive this recognition since the category's inception in 1989.
The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) governors, McMaster University, and The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation nominated Hatch for the company's ongoing contributions to education, health and community initiatives to create positive change.
"The ROM is delighted that Hatch is being recognized as this year's Outstanding Corporation by the Association of Fundraising Professionals," says Susan Horvath, President & CEO of the ROM Governors. "Hatch's remarkable commitment of $3 million to the Museum in 2014 is an investment in education and learning that will be felt for generations to come."
"At Hatch, we are deeply honoured to receive this recognition for our philanthropic efforts," says John Bianchini, CEO. "This award is a credit to our employees, who are great supporters of the community and our partners, including the ROM, McMaster University and The Princess Margaret Foundation. As engineers, we recognize we have a responsibility to give back, to support learning opportunities in engineering, science and technology and inspire the next generation to build a better future."
Hatch's gift to the ROM is supporting several exciting new initiatives that enhance the Museum's educational and outreach mandate. Among other support to the ROM, Hatch is contributing to several aspects of the Teck Suite, which houses major collections of minerals, metals, and gems as well as the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. With Hatch's support, the ROM was able to acquire the Kirwin Collection - a transformative collection of over 20,000 ores and minerals gathered over 40 years by famed geologist Douglas Kirwin. This gift also supports a Managing Director of the ROM Earth & Space and a university graduate and post doctorate fund.
For nearly 30 years, Hatch has been one of McMaster University's most valued philanthropic partners. With a focus on the Faculty of Engineering, Hatch, its executives and employees have contributed to the success of the faculty and the experience of its students. Hatch is a strong supporter of higher-education in science, technology and mathematics, offering scholarships globally, including important engineering scholarships at McMaster. The company is also supporting the construction of the new Gerald Hatch Centre for Engineering Experiential Learning, named in honour of Hatch's founder.
Since 2012, Hatch has supported The Princess Margaret Foundation, one of the top five cancer research centers in the world. As the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer Corporate Cup Champion (top corporate sponsor) for four years in a row, Hatch's employees and senior management have shown great team spirit and raised more than $835,000 towards the "Believe it" campaign. The billion-dollar fundraising campaign is focused on delivering Personalized Cancer Medicine to patients and developing new technologies for identifying signals and reducing the uncertainties of cancer treatments.
The AFP award for Outstanding Corporation follows on Hatch recently being awarded the Canadian Consulting Engineering Award for Community Outreach and recognition as one of Canada's safest employers by Canadian Occupational Safety.
Hatch is an employee-owned, multidisciplinary professional services firm that delivers a comprehensive array of technical and strategic services, including consulting, information technology, engineering, process development, and project and construction management to the Mining, Metallurgical, Energy, and Infrastructure sectors.
