NORTH BAY, ON, Aug. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - Investments by the Harper Government in cultural organizations in North Bay and the surrounding area are helping create jobs and stimulate the economy. Support for 20 arts, culture, and official-language projects was announced today by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
These investments will support a wide variety of organizations that share the goal of boosting tourism and strengthening the local economy while providing the people of North Bay with unique cultural experiences in their communities. Organizations receiving funding include the North Bay Theatre and Arts Community Centre, the Conseil des Arts de Nipissing Ouest, the North Bay Area Museum Society, and North Bay's Summer in the Park.
"This year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada's 150th birthday in 2017," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous and free country we are today."
"The North Bay Theatre and Arts Community Centre (Capitol Centre) acknowledges the ongoing support of the Government of Canada and its commitment to Canadian programming," said Dee Adrian, General Manager, Capitol Centre. "Without this support, we would not be in a position to present such diversity in programming. This gigantic investment in the arts allows us to complete a major accessibility retrofit project and enhance our existing programming with top Canadian performers along with emerging Canadian artists."
The Government of Canada has provided total funding of $778,802 through six programs of the Department of Canadian Heritage: the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program, the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, the Canada Periodical Fund, the Development of Official-Language Communities Program, and the Museums Assistance Program.
