Whirlpool named Home sponsor with $100,000 donation
BRAMPTON, ON, May 8, 2012 /CNW/ - Habitat for Humanity Brampton launched construction of two new homes with a groundbreaking ceremony today at Hoskins Square in Brampton as part of its 36inTEN campaign to build 36 homes in 10 years. Whirlpool Canada has donated $100,000 along with appliances for both homes and has been named home sponsor for one of the two homes.
"It's an exciting day as we get started on two new homes, which will provide a helping hand to two families in the community, part of our ongoing goal to build 36 homes in the next 10 years," says Thomas Fischer, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity Brampton. "We're also delighted to welcome Whirlpool as a home sponsor, a company that has been a terrific supporter of Habitat for Humanity globally over the years."
Whirlpool Canada is the home sponsor for a three story, 1,200 sq. ft. home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second home to be built will be 800 sq. ft. with three bedrooms and one bathroom. Both homes have been designed by Ottawa-based architectural firm 25:8 Research + Design.
"We're excited to be the title sponsor for a new home in Brampton and to be a part of today's groundbreaking," says Susan Promane, Director of Supply, Whirlpool Canada. "We believe in giving a helping hand and supporting Habitat for Humanity in the community. We are looking forward to participating in this build."
In addition to the financial contribution and the donation of appliances, Whirlpool employees will be volunteering their time over several days to help build the home.
"Habitat for Humanity and Whirlpool have a longstanding relationship, not just in Canada, but globally. Currently, that support has included the donation of a refrigerator and range for every new Habitat home built in North America," adds Promane.
In addition, members of the community were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony, including Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell, Gael Miles, Regional Councillor for Wards 7 & 8 and Sandra Hames, Regional Councillor for Wards 7 & 8, as well as support and participation by other Regional Councillors, MPs and MPPs.
