TORONTO, Oct. 26, 2015 /CNW/ - GS1 Canada commends Alberta Health Services (AHS) on the launch of the Canadian Healthcare Medical Device Standards Project aimed at improving on patient safety and business effectiveness. This new initiative unites AHS with selected medical device manufacturers alongside solution provider, GHX, to advance the adoption of GS1 global standards to improve health system quality and efficiency.
As a result of AHS's leadership, this project will provide much needed Canadian examples and evidence to demonstrate the value of the adoption of GS1 global standards among trading partners across the healthcare sectors.
"This is exciting news and exactly where Canada needs to go to drive implementation of global standards across the healthcare sector," says John King, Chair, GS1 Canada's Healthcare Advisory Council. "While we can leverage the experiences and lessons of other jurisdictions and active users such as NEHTA in Australia, and the NHS in the United Kingdom, more Canadian examples means greater adoption."
AHS is an active member of GS1 Canada's Carenet Healthcare Sector Board, Healthcare Advisory Council, Healthcare Provider Deployment Committee, and the Carenet Technical working group that developed GS1 Canada's healthcare strategy which is currently being implemented across the country.
