Graham Carr Appointed as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum

GATINEAU, QC, Oct. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum are pleased to share news of the appointment of Dr. Graham Carr as Chair of the Board of Trustees for a term of four years. The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, made the announcement earlier today. 

Dr. Carr, of Montréal, Quebec, brings to this important role a distinguished record of leadership in higher education, public service, governance, and community engagement. As President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University since 2019, Dr. Carr has guided a renowned educational institution through a period of profound change, advancing an ambitious strategy for academic excellence and institutional renewal, and helping to strengthen the university's national and international reputation. Under his leadership, Concordia completed the largest fundraising campaign in its history and secured major investments in research, innovation, and sustainable development.

Dr. Carr offers considerable governance experience, having served on university, civic and national boards, including Universities Canada, U SPORTS, and the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal. Across these roles, he has demonstrated a commitment to thoughtful stewardship, accountable decision-making, and constructive partnership. His academic research focuses on North American cultural history, particularly cultural diplomacy and the Cold War. This scholarly expertise, together with his sustained public engagement on education, climate action, and community partnerships, will bring valuable perspective to the Board's oversight of our national museums. 

Dr. Carr's appointment follows the conclusion of Carole Beaulieu's term after more than five years of guiding the Board with vision and steady leadership through the advancement of major corporate priorities and during a significant period of organizational change. Her strategic foresight helped shape the Museums' long-term direction, and her commitment to sound governance and strengthening the sustainability of the Museums will form a lasting part of her legacy.
