OTTAWA, Feb. 18, 2016 /CNW/ - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Québec and Beauce from February 21–25, 2016.
"Sharon and I are always delighted to return to the residence at the Citadelle of Québec to partake in a range of activities that touch on entrepreneurship, philanthropy, innovation, education, volunteerism and mental health," said the Governor General. "We will have the opportunity to meet with experts in these various fields, who will highlight activities that have an impact on economic growth and social involvement in their region. I will also have the honour of presenting Decorations for Bravery to courageous Canadians who risked their lives to save or protect the life of another."

Meeting with the Finalists of the AA-Elites Division of the Pee-Wee Québec International Hockey Tournament and Trophy Presentation
Before the game, Their Excellencies, accompanied by His Worship Régis Labeaume, Mayor of Québec, and his spouse, Mrs. Louise Vien, will wish good luck to both teams competing in the AA-Elites Division championship game. At 1:30 p.m., Their Excellencies and their hosts will attend the game and cheer them on. The Governor General and the Mayor will then present the trophy to the runner-up team.
Founded in 1960, the Pee-Wee Québec International Hockey Tournament continues to give thousands of youths aged 11 and 12 an unforgettable experience and lifelong memories as they represent their teams. Some of the big names in hockey, including Brad Park, Guy Lafleur, the Gretzky and Howe brothers, Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy and Steven Stamkos have taken part in this tournament. Visit to La Boussole by Her Excellency Sharon Johnston
Her Excellency will have the opportunity to speak with stakeholders in two of La Boussole's programs: Enfance-Jeunesse, focusing on group activities for children (7–12 years) and adolescents (13–17 years) with a family member living with a mental disorder, and L'homme qui parlait aux autos, training that offers a code of conduct to facilitate interaction with individuals with a mental disorder. In addition, Mrs. Johnston will meet with volunteer facilitators of self-help groups and volunteers with the 24/7 helpline, who offer callers support and a sympathetic ear.
La Boussole, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, is a community-based, non-profit organization in the Québec region with a mission to bring together and support the family members and friends of individuals experiencing the clinical features of a mental disorder. Visit to the Centre de recherche de l'Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Québec (CRIUSMQ) and Discussion on Groundbreaking Research to Detect Early Signs of Mental Illness in Youth
Their Excellencies will meet with Dr. Yves De Koninck, Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Université Laval and Scientific Director of CRIUSMQ, and with Ms. Maryse Beaulieu, Managing Director, IUSMQ Foundation. Their Excellencies will be given an overview of how various research projects are developing, including research to detect early signs of mental illness in youth by studying the retina. They will then visit the laboratories of Dr. Pierre Marquet, a world-class researcher and the only Canada Excellence Research Chair in the field of mental health, who joined the research team for what could be the world's first biological test to detect early signs of mental illness.
CRIUSMQ is a neuroscience and mental health research centre in Canada. The Centre studies the primary causes of brain diseases and hosts nearly 70 researchers who lead teams totalling nearly 500 people. Their Excellencies will visit CIMIC's workshops in industrial design, electricity, industrial mechanics, machining techniques, welding and fitting, and auto mechanics. Following the visit, Their Excellencies will speak with teachers, students and associated entrepreneurs who will highlight the Centre's areas of expertise.
Unique to North America, CIMIC is an integrated professional industrial mechanics training centre at the secondary, college and university levels. Approximately 90 per cent of the 700 graduates from each graduating class find employment before the end of their studies. The maple syrup industry is a leading industry in Quebec with some 7 300 maple syrup-producing companies. Their Excellencies will visit Les Industries Bernard & Fils, a family-owned company that has been producing high-quality, pure maple syrup since the early 19th century. During their visit, Their Excellencies will observe the maple syrup bottling process, from heating to labelling for commercial sale.

Visit to the École d'Entrepreneurship de Beauce (EEB)
Their Excellencies will be greeted by Mr. Marc Dutil, founder of the EEB, and Ms. Valérie Parent, Director of Outreach, and will be given a tour of the facilities to learn about the school's history and various programs. Their Excellencies will then attend the launch of the "G5" cohort in the Émergence program and meet with students who have been running a business for a few years and are looking to expand their business.
Officially launched in September 2010, the EEB is the only school in Canada that is dedicated to training entrepreneurs through the transfer of knowledge and experience from one generation of business leaders to another. In less than five years, over 80 high-level entrepreneurs have agreed to come and share their life experiences in Beauce.
