Address at the 84th Anniversary of Remembrance Dedicated to America's Veterans of All Wars
On Memorial Day, the Governor General will be the guest speaker at the 84th Anniversary of Remembrance Dedicated to America's Veterans of All Wars, to be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery. As commander-in-chief of Canada, he will deliver remarks on the importance of Canada-U.S. military co-operation and will honour the Canadian and U.S. heroes who fought and died for their country. His Excellency will lay a wreath alongside the Honourable Mike Coffman, Colorado Congressman, and Colonel John Wagner, Commander of 460th Space Wing, Buckley Air Force Base. Canada and the U.S. share a special defence partnership. During the Second World War, and before the U.S. entered the war, some 8 860 Americans joined the Royal Canadian Air Force—829 of whom were killed in action.

Fort Logan National Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 122 000 active duty service members, veterans and their families. It was named after Union General John A. Logan, commander of U.S. Volunteer forces during the American Civil War. The Cemetery features a pathway lined with a number of memorials that honour American veterans from various organizations. There are 17 memorials—most commemorating soldiers of various 20th-century wars. For more information, visit www.cem.va.gov.
