Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, announced Government of Canada support for immigrant women in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec.
Portes Ouvertes Sur le Lac is receiving funding for a project to improve community organizations' ability to respond to the economic needs of immigrant women in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. In collaboration with the Service Externe de Main-d'œuvre du Saguenay, the project will consolidate existing and create new partnerships to better identify the needs of immigrant women in the region. Strategies to respond to these needs will then be developed and piloted with partners in order to evaluate their effectiveness.
This project was selected through the Government of Canada's recent call for proposals entitled Opening Doors: Economic Opportunities for Women.
- Status of Women Canada is providing $ 197,018 to Portes Ouvertes Sur le Lac for this 24-month project.
- The Government of Canada has provided over $146 million in funding through Status of Women Canada to support more than 720 projects since 2007. This includes more than $54 million invested in projects that promote women's economic security and prosperity.
- The Government of Canada continues to focus on creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for all Canadians. This includes taking action to create new opportunities for women throughout the economy, from skilled trades to corporate boards.
"The number one priority of our Government is jobs, growth and long-term prosperity. That's why we are pleased to support projects like this in Quebec and across Canada that help immigrant women find new economic opportunities."
