OTTAWA, June 30, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, today announced the appointment of Dr. Murray Lytle as a full-time member of the National Energy Board (NEB) for a term of seven years, effective July 6, 2015.
Dr. Lytle is a seasoned engineering and executive management professional with considerable experience in Canada and South America in the oil, gas and mining sectors, as well as equity finance. Most recently, he has served as Divisional Manager for Snowden Mining Industry Consultants based in Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Lytle holds a Ph.D., Mining Engineering (Corporate Social Responsibility) from the University of British Columbia.
- The National Energy Board is an independent federal agency established in 1959 by the Parliament of Canada to regulate international and interprovincial aspects of the oil, gas and electric utility industries.
- In 2014, the NEB regulated approximately 73,000 kilometres of interprovincial and international pipelines along with approximately 1,400 kilometres of international power lines across Canada.
- In 2014, NEB regulated pipelines shipped approximately $159-billion worth of crude oil, petroleum products, natural gas liquids and natural gas to Canadians and export customers and NEB-regulated international power lines transmitted approximately $3.6 billion of electricity into and out of Canada.
