Government and Residents' Association Join Forces to Help Communities Find

TORONTO , Sept. 29 /CNW/ - Over the coming weeks, the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO) will play host to over 90 Ontario communities in need during the Health Professionals Recruitment Tour. Communities, experiencing a shortage of doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers will take the opportunity to showcase lifestyle, educational and employment opportunities available. Last year, over 1200 students, residents and established healthcare professionals visited the job fair.

The Health Professionals Recruitment Tour will travel over 3,200 kilometres making stops in Thunder Bay, Ottawa , Kingston, London , Hamilton, Toronto and Sudbury.

Coordinated by the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, the Tour is an opportunity for communities to meet face to face with medical students, doctors and allied health care workers.

"The Tour affords a great opportunity for residents to discover communities which might be the perfect fit for their practice and family needs," said Dr. Andrew Toren , President of PAIRO. "Doctors completing residency are working long hours as front-line care providers in hospitals while they prepare for their certification exams and the Tour provides a vehicle to talk one-on-one to a variety of communities, all in one location."
