Canadian Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team captures Team Gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games (CNW Group/Commonwealth Games Association of Canada)

• Artistic Gymnastics - Women's team event – GOLD - after missing out on medals at Glasgow 2014, the women's team stormed back at these Games to earn the top step on the podium. World all-around silver medallist Ellie Black qualified first in the all-around and Canada will have two athletes in every apparatus final.
  
  
• Swimming – BRONZE - Markus Thormeyer (Delta, BC) – after setting a torrid pace in his semi-final the day before, Thormeyer stormed to a bronze medal to win his first individual medal at a multi-sport Games. The Rio 2016 Olympian has also earned international medals in relays.
  
  
• Weightlifting – two medals today!
  
  Tali Darsigny, 58kg – SILVER - Keeping her family's weightlifting legacy alive, Tali Darsigny (Saint Hyacinthe, QC) won a silver medal in the women's 58 kg weight-class at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Her dad Yvan Darsigny represented Canada at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1992 and her mom, Kim Barré, participated in four World Championships in the 1980s. Her brothers are also active in the sport, with Matt Darsigny participating at the 2017 Junior World Championships.
  
  Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet of St-Bruno-de-Montarville, QC captured BRONZE with a total lift of 181 kg, 9 kg over 4th place and just 1 kg less than silver-medalist Loa Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea. On her way to the gold medal, Sanjita Chanu Khumukcham of India set a new Games record in the snatch with a lift of 84kg.

LOOKING AHEAD AT TEAM CANADA ACTION ON DAY 3 – APRIL 7, 2018

Canada enters Day 3 ranked 3^rd at the Games, with a total of 11 medals

22 medal events up for grabs today!

• Artistic Gymnastics – Individual All-around Women and Men – the gold and silver medals in the women's and men's Team Event are sure to inspire the three athletes in the all-around section of the competition. The women (Ellie Black, Isabela Onyshko) will tackle 4 apparatus while Rene Cournoyer will compete on 6 in the men's competition.
  
  
• Cycling – there will be lots of action once again on the track at the Anna Meares Velodrome. Keep your eyes on the women's 25km points race (Stephanie Roorda, Allison Beveridge, Kinley Gibson) who are a threat to medal.
  
  
• Swimming – 3 Canadian women have made the final in the 100m backstroke (Kylie Masse, Taylor Ruck, Hannah Jade). Taylor Ruck will also swim the 50m freestyle final, along with Kayla Sanchez.
  
  
• Triathlon – The Mixed Team Relay takes place – the two women and two men competing are sure to be inspired by Joanna Brown's come-from-behind bronze medal in the individual triathlon two days earlier.
  
  
• Weightlifting – three weight categories are being contested today – Women's 63kg, Men's 77kg and Men's 85kg. Nicolas Vachon (Saint-Jérôme, QC) a member of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Team is currently ranked 1^st in the Commonwealth in the 77kg category.
