PURELL Advanced Hand Rub is the first and only hand rub allowed for use in the Categories of Hospital and Healthcare Professional, Commercial and Food Premise Use
AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 26, 2013 /CNW/ - GOJO Industries announced today PURELL® Advanced Hand Rub was granted an Exemption Number (EN-182959) by Health Canada and is the first and only hand sanitizer allowed for Hospital and Healthcare Professional, Commercial and Food Premise Use in Canada based on the 2009 Health Canada Guidance Document: Human-Use Antiseptic Drugs.
The exemption number allows PURELL alcohol-based hand rub to be sold in Canada while its submitted product license application awaits final review by Health Canada. Products are granted exemption numbers only after undergoing an initial assessment of safety, quality and efficacy review.
"Clinical studies show PURELL Advanced Hand Rub greatly reduces the spread of germs and viruses transmitted from the hands in real world settings," said David Mackay, vice president Sales and Marketing, Healthcare Markets. "Making PURELL Advanced Hand Rub more available benefits the health of Canadians and provides a solution for markets where hand hygiene is critical. From a public health standpoint, it was important for us to seek approval for efficacy and viral kill claims with Health Canada."
As part of the review process, third party, independent test results and published studies were submitted to Health Canada to provide scientific evidence. The studies show the PURELL Advanced Hand Rub provides proven efficacy against bacteria, fungi and viruses on skin and persistence against bacteria. It also kills 99.99 % of germs including Norovirus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Adenovirus, Serratia marcescens, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Rotavirus and Rhinovirus.
