New name and brand reflects growing interest in cycling for every day transportation
VANCOUVER, April 11, 2018 /CNW/ - The organisation that facilitates Bike to Work and School Week in more than 50 communities across B.C. has a brand new name and look.
Bike to Work BC Society has changed its name to GoByBikeBC and developed an energetic new logo and tagline, "Bike it. You'll love it", that is more reflective of the changing interests of the population.
"Historically, Bike to Work BC focused on commuting to work by bicycle," said GoByBikeBC Board President Taylor Bachrach, a Smithers resident who uses a bicycle for a variety of everyday transportation trips.
"Each year more and more people told us they were retired or work from home, but wanted to participate in Bike to Work Week. Then along came Bike to School and our brand started to feel too restrictive. We want to help people discover the joy of using their bicycles for everyday transportation, no matter what their destination! Our new name and logo will allow us to build on our iconic Bike to Work and Bike to School Week programs, and gives us the potential to expand into other exciting areas in the future."
The new name and logo were both created by Vancouver firm, Toolbox Design.
"We believe bicycles can change our communities – many of our people ride to work every day. So we were honoured to work on this campaign," said Toolbox Design's President, James Ducommun.
"The idea was to empower Bike to Work BC Society to extend their influence way beyond their signature Bike to Work and Bike to School events. The new name, GoByBikeBC, works to explain the wider scope. To empower this extended reach, we strove to create a brand that was both clear and full of new energy – kind of like the simple joy of riding everywhere. And judging by the adoption by the local chapters of Bike to School and Work Weeks – which has been huge – it succeeded. We're very proud of this work and glad to contribute to a two-wheeled future for our B.C. communities."
The event name, Bike to Work and School Week, will remain the same at least in the short term. However people using a bicycle for any transportation trip are encouraged to register! The grand prize is a cycling trip for two to Portugal, sponsored by Exodus Travels.
