TORONTO, Dec. 17, 2015 /CNW/ - Building on a rock solid 2015 fall season, Global gears up for an extraordinary new year with a roster of brand new, must-see series alongside its lineup of returning blockbusters. Heating up the winter schedule is the gritty and complex new drama Shades of Blue, from Oscar®-winning director and executive producer Barry Levinson, and the iconic Jennifer Lopez who executive produces and stars in the series. Premiering January 7 at 10 pm ET/PT, this edgy series follows NYPD detective turned informant Harlee (Lopez), struggling to protect her work family and avoid arrest while keeping her daughter safe.
Friday is where the funny is with two new and unabashed comedies, Angel From Hell and Superstore, airing back-to-back beginning January 8 at 8 pm ET/PT. In Angel From Hell, Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actress and comedian Jane Lynch stars as an over-the-top oddball who insinuates herself into the life of the seemingly perfect and put-together Allison (Maggie Lawson), claiming to be her guardian angel. The laughs continue with Superstore, a brand new comedy starring America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) that chronicles the day-to-day grind of a super-sized mega store as its employees navigate the struggles of rabid bargain hunters, riot-causing sales, and nap-worthy training sessions.
"Global head's into midseason with a rock solid lineup of extraordinary series," said Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media. "With fresh episodes of fall's hottest new series Supergirl and Limitless and January's most talked about new drama, Shades of Blue, it's a must-see schedule."
Global continues to deliver hours of entertainment all winter long with returning fan favourites. Having just received a full season order, Supergirl soars back to Global's Monday night lineup beginning January 4 at 8 pm ET/PT. A bonafide hit with younger audiences, Supergirl is fall's #2 new series for the coveted A18-34 and A25-54 demos. Limitless, fall's #4 new series (A18-49 and A25-54), returns on January 5 at 10 pm ET/PT. Then the otherworldly Heroes Reborn returns chock- full of supernatural action on January 7 at 8 pm ET/PT.
The beloved NCIS franchise returns, anchored by the country's #1 drama NCIS on January 5 at 8 pm ET/PT, followed by NCIS: New Orleans at 9 pm ET/PT. Newcomer Chicago Med, the latest addition to the red-hot Chicago franchise, returns on January 5 at 7 pm ET/PT with more trauma centre chaos. Also returning in the New Year is high-octane series The Blacklist, which was recently renewed for a fourth season, alongside Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Elementary, and The Simpsons.
