Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Canada, November 16-22, 2009

TORONTO, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is the Official Host of Global Entrepreneurship Week Canada (GEW Canada) from November 16-22, 2009. GEW Canada will be partnering with hundreds of organizations to champion a culture of entrepreneurship and mentoring through a wide variety of events.

Highlights include:

The Great Canadian Mentoring Challenge November 16th - 22nd, 2009

CYBF, together with IBM, Nerds On Site, and the W. Brett Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence are asking you to pass on your mentoring DNA! The Great Canadian Mentoring Challenge (GCMC) will bring together business leaders from across the country to contribute their advice to aspiring new business owners and put Canada on the world map as the leader in mentoring young entrepreneurs. Open to the public.

    Ypreneur Gene finalist judging by stars of CBC's Dragons' Den:
    Friday, Nov. 13th 12pm Barbara Frum Atrium, 250 Front Street West,

Three finalists in the Ypreneur Gene contest, competing for a $100,000 franchise will have the opportunity to explain why they should be the next franchise owner and entrepreneur to judges Jim Treliving and Arlene Dickinson of CBC's Dragon's Den. Free admission.

    Youth Entrepreneurship Summit:
    Monday, November 16th 1:00pm to 5:00pm, The Carlu, 444 Yonge Street,

Industry Canada and CYBF will host a Youth Entrepreneurship Summit in Toronto along with partners the John Dobson Foundation, Business Development Bank of Canada and The National Post. Key leaders from government, educational institutions, business and non-profit agencies will come together with entrepreneurs to help develop a framework and eventual White Paper with recommendations for Canada's first youth entrepreneurship strategy.     CYBF Chairman's Awards Celebration:
    Monday, November 16th, 5:30pm to 10:00pm, The Carlu, 444 Yonge Street,

CYBF's annual Chairman's Awards Celebration honours its outstanding entrepreneurs, mentors and community partners. In addition, CYBF also honours two exceptional Canadian entrepreneurs with our "Nation Builder Award". This year the winners are David Aisenstat, President and CEO, The Keg Steakhouse & Bar and Chairman, The Keg Spirit Foundation and W. Brett Wilson, Chairman, Prairie Merchant Corporation and CBC Dragon. By invitation only. Media registration required.

    Largest Business Lesson Guinness World Record(TM) Attempt:
    November 19th, Rotunda, Toronto City Hall 6:00pm - 8:30pm

CYBF and Enterprise Toronto will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Business Lesson. Hosted by Steve Stunt of CHUM-AM's The Entrepreneur Hour, mentors and business experts will be available from a variety of fields. Pre registration required or call 416-385-7416.

Launched in 2007 by the U.S. based Kauffman Foundation and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, GEW is an international movement designed to create increased awareness as to the importance of young entrepreneurs and their direct impact on the global economy. This year, close to 100 countries are participating in the event. In Canada, local and national events and contests designed to help people explore their potential as self-starters and innovators will be taking place across the country.
