MONTREAL, Aug. 27, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Montreal Art Center and Museum is preparing to welcome artists, art lovers and members of the public to the Global Art League Exhibition, opening this week in the heart of Griffintown.
Bringing together a diverse selection of artistic voices, the Global Art League celebrates creativity, artistic expression and the meaningful connections created through visual art. The exhibition offers participating artists an opportunity to present their work within the distinctive setting of the Montreal Art Center and Museum and to engage with a broader cultural community.
The Global Art League was created to provide artists with a platform for recognition, exchange and visibility while encouraging dialogue among artists, cultural professionals and the public.
The exhibition features 101 selected artists and approximately 115 artworks, with several artists having two or three works accepted into the competition. Although most of the participating artists are based in Canada, the competition is truly international, featuring artists from the United States, Egypt, Belgium, Spain, Mexico and other countries.
Many of the artists currently living in Canada also represent diverse cultural backgrounds and nationalities, including Algeria, Morocco, Venezuela, Iran, India and many more. Together, the selected participants reflect a remarkably diverse and international community of artists.
Judging Panel
The exhibition will include a formal judging component, with distinguished professionals invited to evaluate the works and contribute their expertise. The judging process will recognize artistic merit, originality, visual impact and the individual character of the participating works.
The confirmed judges are:
Wayne Larsen
Wayne Larsen is a Montreal-based artist, writer, editor and educator whose career has encompassed visual art, journalism and Canadian art history. A landscape painter with decades of artistic experience, he is also the author of biographies of prominent Canadian artists A.Y. Jackson and James Wilson Morrice. Larsen has taught journalism at Concordia University and has written extensively about art and the media.
François Colbert, C.M.
François Colbert is a professor of marketing and a leading authority in arts and cultural management at HEC Montréal. He holds the Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux Chair in Arts Management and has played an important role in developing academic programs devoted to the management of arts and cultural organizations. He is also the founding editor of the International Journal of Arts Management. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of arts management, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
A third distinguished art professional will complete the judging panel. Their name and professional biography will be included in the final press release once their participation has been confirmed.

Exhibition Dates
The Opening Night will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The Closing Night and Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Both events will be held at the Montreal Art Center and Museum, located at 1844 William Street in Montreal's historic Griffintown district.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the participating artists, experience approximately 115 artworks in person and take part in two special evenings centred on art, creativity and cultural exchange. The Closing Night and Awards Ceremony will recognize selected artists and celebrate the accomplishments of all participating artists.
The Montreal Art Center and Museum continues to develop programming that supports artists while creating opportunities for the public to experience art in an intimate and accessible cultural setting.
