All donations towards relief efforts will be matched by the Canadian Government for a limited time
LANGLEY, BC, Nov. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - It is considered to be the most powerful storm on record to ever hit land. Approximately 630,000 people are displaced and 1,833 are confirmed dead in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, also known in the Philippines as Yolanda.
Global Aid Network (GAiN), the humanitarian partner of Power to Change, is on the ground in the Philippines responding to the devastation with immediate emergency response supplies.
While aid delivery from many organizations has been slow due to the massive scale of the disaster and challenges in delivering emergency supplies, GAiN already has a plan in place and a team taking action in-country. Our partners - GAiN Philippines and GAiN Australia - are currently providing medical relief and assembling 4,500 Emergency Response Packages for families, which will impact 22,500 individuals.
Each package contains emergency supplies such as: bread, biscuits, rice, sardines, pork and beans, water, blankets, towels, temporary shelters, and used clothing. Distribution has begun in Tacloban and Ormoc.
"The initial wave of our response is to distribute 4,500 family packages in the Philippines but we want to help more people," says GAiN Canada CEO and Executive Director, Bill Blaney. "The needs are great and we are acting quickly, but we also need Canadians to come alongside us in this effort."
GAiN is in urgent need of financial contributions to respond to those left homeless and hopeless by this disaster. Without immediate food, water and emergency supplies, many more will die.
Canadians can make an impact by donating towards GAiN's Emergency Response Packages. Each package costs $120 for one family for one week.
Donations can be made online at globalaid.net or by phone at 1.877.462.GAiN (4246). Please give today.
Headquartered in Langley, BC, GAiN is the humanitarian partner of Power to Change and works to demonstrate the love of God, in word and deed, to hurting and needy people around the world through relief and development projects.
