VANCOUVER, April 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Throughout 2012, Canada's oldest, continuously operating funeral service trade association - the Funeral Service Association of British Columbia (FSABC) - is celebrating 100 years of advocacy promoting the highest standards of professional bereavement and death care being delivered by its members to the people of British Columbia.
The Funeral Service Association of British Columbia is a non-profit organization that represents more than 90% of the licensed funeral service providers and crematorium operators in B.C. from all across the province and the Yukon Territories. We work with other professional organizations and government to represent, promote and advance the interests of funeral services professionals throughout British Columbia.
Founded in 1912 at a meeting held in Vancouver, the FSABC membership will be returning to Vancouver to celebrate 100 years of service. From Thursday, April 19 through Saturday, April 21 the FSABC members will meet to hold their annual general meeting and conference. The membership of a sister organization, the Cemetery & Crematorium Association of B.C., will be joining the FSABC membership at this conference.
The members of the FSABC wanted to give the public an opportunity to participate in the 100 year celebration in Vancouver and so have arranged for the following exciting program event to be open to public attendance:
TITANIC - a Funeral Director's Call to Duty, period fashion show and luncheon - featuring:
- Todd Van Beck renowned funeral service historian and inspiring speaker will talk of the Titanic disaster and the role Canadian and American funeral directors played in the recovery, repatriation or burial of the dead, and;
- Ivan Sayers noted Vancouver fashion historian, will be presenting a fashion show of garments and fashion reminiscent of the Titanic era and the Roaring 20's. Sayers has one of the largest and most comprehensive collections in North America of historic clothing in private hands.
This event - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - is being held on Saturday, April 21 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Pavilion Ballroom at the Sheraton Wall Center Hotel, Vancouver, BC. Tickets are $65 per person.
Persons interested in purchasing tickets can call the FSABC office 1-800-665-3899 before FRIDAY, APRIL 13th. There is limited seating for this event.
