QUÉBEC, Jan. 27 /CNW Telbec/ - The New Brunswick Department of Public Safety entrusts Fujitsu and its partner, Microsoft Services Canada, with the modernization of the province's motor vehicle legacy system. The $7 million project began in December 2009 and is expected to end in 2012.
The mandate calls for the development of a new system that will allow the Department to quickly and efficiently access information on drivers and vehicles that are unsafe or associated with organized crime. It will also enhance cooperation with law enforcement agencies by improving information sharing. This will increase road safety in the province to the benefit of all citizens.
To achieve the client's objectives, consultants from Fujitsu will implement a modern, stable and reliable system and technology platform. The process is based on a series of automated data migration tools (Fujitsu PROGRESSION) combined with customized manual tasks to convert the legacy code to Microsoft .NET.
"We are extremely proud to contribute to the modernization of New Brunswick's public services", said Christian Giroux, senior vice-president and head of Fujitsu's Québec office. "We look forward to our participation in this major project, which will enable New Brunswick to increase the safety of its population. We won this contract because of our membership in the Fujitsu family and the quality solutions we provide", he added. The project team will include Fujitsu technicians from Canada and the United States. They will put Fujitsu Canada's nearshoring model into practice by using the Remote Development Centre (RDC) located in Québec.
