TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Countless celebrities have graced the stages of the Elgin and Winter Garden theatres over the last 100 years. The historic theatres have also played host to popular shows, including Cats, Tommy, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Rent, Tuesdays with Morrie and Barrymore.
Over the years, the stages have welcomed early acts such as George Burns and Gracie Allen, Milton Berle, Irving Berlin, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. Musical performers have included: Liza Minnelli, The Tenors, Donny Osmond, Michael Bublé, Chita Rivera, Measha Bruggergosman, Anne Murray, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings and Ryan Adams.
Canadian singer Celine Dion has fond memories of the theatres.

Ross Petty has produced an annual holiday musical at the theatre centre for 17 years, including this year's production of The Little Mermaid. Other performers that have appeared on the stages include: Sandra Shamas, Christopher Plummer, Ron James, Shaun Majumder, Sandra Bernhard, Russell Peters, Elaine Stritch, Karen Kain and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Originally built as a vaudeville venue, the double-decker theatre complex was the Canadian flagship of Marcus Loew's legendary theatre chain. It is the last of its type in the world.
