Former Filipino Canadian Idol Martha Joy Hosts Fundraising Concert For Filipinos Affected By Typhoon Yolanda
PICKERING, ON, Nov. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - Filipino Canadian Martha Joy who placed 8th in the 2007 Canadian Idol is hosting a fundraising concert in response to the devastation in the Philippines from typhoon Yolanda. This concert will be the first of a few fundraising concerts Martha will host throughout the Greater Toronto Area. All proceeds from the concerts will go directly to designated charities and Archdioceses in the Philippines.
It is estimated that there are over 200,000 Filipinos living in the Greater Toronto Area who have been directly or indirectly affected by the devastation in the Philippines.
"I am deeply saddened by what has happened in the Philippines and hosting a concert is the least I can do to help the people of the Philippines," says Martha Joy. Adding, "This concert is not solely for the Filipino community it is for everyone who feels touched by the devastation in the Philippines." The destruction hits close to home for Martha Joy as she has recently returned from living in the Philippines for the last three years. During her time in the Philippines, Martha was signed to Viva Records and performed all over the Philippines and Asia promoting her album. "Martha was a household name in the Philippines and we are all feeling tremendous sorrow caused by the typhoon" says her mother Sonia. Martha returned home to the Greater Toronto Area due to her mother's ailing health.
Since returning home, Martha has regularly performed at concerts and frequently donates her time in the community. Martha's family has created a Facebook Page called "Help the Philippines" and a website www.helpthephilippines.ca where Martha will share her concert details and updates on her fundraising drive.
