First Nurse Practitioner Registered in Yukon
WHITEHORSE, April 23, 2013 /CNW/ - Yukon residents stand to benefit from the registration of the first nurse practitioner in the Territory, stated Minister of Health and Social Services Doug Graham on Friday April 19th. In his address to the 19th Annual General Meeting of the Yukon Registered Nurses Association (YRNA), Minister Graham acknowledged the significance of this historic development in Yukon healthcare, adding that introducing nurse practitioners to the Yukon was part of his mandate when he first became Minister of Health and Social Services.
Dr. Rao Tadepalli, President of the Yukon Medical Association, congratulated YRNA on its first nurse practitioner registration, stating that "Yukon doctors look forward to working collaboratively with our nursing colleagues towards a common goal of improving patient health outcomes."
According to YRNA President Sean Secord, "When all health professionals work together and to their full and optimized scope of practice, patients will benefit and we will have a more accessible and more efficient health system."
Joy Peacock, YRNA's Executive Director, echoed her colleagues' remarks. "YRNA is delighted with the registration of the first nurse practitioner in the Yukon. It demonstrates the government's commitment to increasing timely access to quality care for the public, and recognizes the importance that collaborative care plays in the healthcare system."
Hazel Booth is the first nurse practitioner. She works in continuing care, Health and Social Services, Yukon Government.
The Yukon Registered Nurses' Association is pleased to be working together, in partnership with the Yukon Government and the Yukon Medical Association to affect continued positive change.
