First Annual Independent Games Festival China Announces Finalists
</pre> <p><location>SAN FRANCISCO</location>, <chron>Oct. 5</chron> /CNW/ -- Organizers of the inaugural Independent Games Festival <location>China</location> (IGF <location>China</location>) have revealed that over 100 entries were received for the first-ever showcase of Asia-Pacific indie games, and finalists have now been decided for both the Main and Student competitions, with winners revealed next week at GDC <location>China</location> in <location>Shanghai</location>.</p> <p/> <p>Chinese submissions for the first-ever independent games event targeting this area -- a newly formed sister event to the main yearly IGF in <location>San Francisco</location> -- were received from <location>Shanghai</location>, <location>Beijing</location>, <location>Chongqing</location>, <location>Hong Kong</location>, <location>Taiwan</location>, Jiang <person>Su Province</person>, Guang <person>Dong Province</person>, Sichuan Province, and Zhejiang. In addition, overseas submissions from Asian, Asia-Pacific and Australasian nations including the <location>Philippines</location>, <location>Israel</location>, <location>Japan</location>, <location>Singapore</location>, <location>Pakistan</location>, <location>Australia</location>, <location>Iran</location>, <location>South Korea</location> and <location>India</location> were considered.</p> <p/> <p>Finalists were chosen by a panel of distinguished local judges, including representatives from IGDA <location>Shanghai</location>, FZD School of Design, Activision and many more. IGF <location>China</location> winners will be showcased at the GDC <location>China</location> event, and are eligible to win up to RMB20,000 (<money>$3,000</money>) in cash prizes, awards, and All Access Passes to GDC <location>San Francisco</location> 2010.</p> <p/> <p>"The quality of work by the finalists represented at the Inaugural Independent Games Festival <location>China</location> is a great indicator of the developing indie movement in that region," said GDC <location>China</location> event director Meggan Scavio.
