Financial Services Commission of Ontario hosts second #DontBFooled event as part of Fraud Prevention Month 2015 Français

TORONTO, March 12, 2015 /CNW/ - Every day, youth engage in online and digital activities that put their reputations, finances and identity at risk. Some of these activities have made national headlines, while others have been happening under the radar – until now. This morning, students at Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute have teamed up with community partners in an event called #DontBFooled to educate their peers about protecting themselves online.
#DontBFooled will feature a series of dramatic presentations performed by Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute students that will be complemented by short speeches by engaging experts including:
- Frank Denton, Assistant Deputy Minister, Ministry of Government and Consumer Services
- Mark Saunders, Deputy Chief, Toronto Police Service
- Bonnie Levine, Executive Director, Victim Services Toronto
- Gail Regan, Detective, Financial Crimes Unit, Toronto Police Service
- Ralph Palumbo, Vice President Ontario region, Insurance Bureau of Canada
In addition, Michael Rajzman, advisor of Digital Communications to Free the Children, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
From 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. students and members of the public will be encouraged to tweet questions and comments about online risks using the #DontBFooled hashtag on Twitter.
The event will feature information displays from the following organizations:
- Bank of Canada
- Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre
- Competition Bureau of Canada
- Financial Services Commission of Ontario
- Insurance Bureau of Canada
- Toronto Police Service
- Victim Services Toronto
After the event, select students and Toronto District School Board representatives will be available for media interviews. Media and guests attending the event must adhere to TDSB protocol.

#DontBFooled is an event organized by Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute in partnership with the Financial Crime and Consumer Protection Public Outreach Working Group. The working group is co-chaired by the Toronto Police Service and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and aims to enhance public outreach on financial crime, scams and consumer protection issues.
Fraud Prevention Month is an annual public awareness campaign held in March that works to prevent Canadians from becoming victims of fraud by helping them "Recognize it. Report it. Stop it."
