Fifth Annual Sock Sorting Event to Help Toronto's Homeless Stay Warm and Healthy
Hundreds of volunteers to join Socks 4 Souls Canada to sort thousands of socks for distribution to GTA shelters
TORONTO, Feb. 8, 2019 /CNW/ - With over 8,000 people experiencing homelessness in Toronto, it's everyone's responsibility to help the homeless stay warm and healthy. This weekend, Socks 4 Souls Canada will host its 5th annual sock sorting event where 300 volunteers have signed up to sort and package 100,000 pairs of socks for distribution to GTA shelters and organizations that support homeless people.
Members of the media are invited to cover the event which takes place from 8:30am to 6:00pm on Saturday February 9th and Sunday February 10th, 2019 at Poly 5 Plastics Inc.; 205 Limestone Cres, Toronto Ontario. The organization is running a Sock Sorting Event as well as a Sock Distribution Event where representatives from shelters and other organizations will pick-up socks for distribution to those in need.

The event comes on the heels of radio station Indie88's highly successful 2nd annual "Socks for the Streets" 2018 holiday sock drive that generated over 120,000 pairs of socks and cash donations that were generously donated by individuals, companies, groups and schools. The Indie88 team, including host Josie Dye, will be onsite to join volunteers and promote this event.
Many homeless people live without some of the basic necessities to keep them healthy and warm. Socks are the most needed but least donated item and are extremely important as 60% of the homeless population suffers foot health problems at any given time. Since walking is their primary form of transportation, foot health is imperative to access food, shelter, medical care and other community services.
How can GTA residents help?
Residents, companies and groups can get involved by running sock drives, donating socks or cash donations or by volunteering at the organizations events.
