FICBC Hires CEO, Continues to Build Staff

CHILLIWACK, BC, Jan. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - The Food Innovation Centre of BC is pleased to announce the selection of its new CEO, Mike Leslie. During the coming weeks, he will work with the acting CEO, Patricia Summers, to ensure a smooth transition as the Centre begins to develop and offer its service programs.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, I'm delighted to welcome Mike to the Centre," said Chairman Robert Morgan. "He brings tremendous skills and experience to the BC food industry."

Mr. Leslie has more than 25 years in the food industry, with experience in both the domestic and international markets. Formerly based in Alberta, he has worked with food processors on a wide range of products.

"Until this year, BC was the only province without a food product development centre," stated Morgan. "Now, as we continue to build staff, FICBC will begin to fill that role." In collaboration with partners, suppliers, associations and government, the Centre will deliver product innovation and commercialization services to BC food processors, and natural health/functional food producers.

FICBC is funded by Growing Forward, an initiative between Canada's federal, provincial and territorial governments to support the development of a profitable, innovative and competitive agriculture and agri-food sector that is adept at managing risk, responds to market demands and contributes to the health and well-being of Canadians.
