TORONTO, Jan. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - Three Canadians have found the ultimate way to beat the winter blues: spend January in the Bahamas competing for a share of a $10 million prize pool. Pascal LeFrancois, 27, from Montreal, Mike McDonald, 24, from Waterloo and Shyam Srinivasan, 32, from Toronto are among eight players remaining in the PCA Main Event. A winner will be crowned today.
This is the fifth day of competition for the three Canadians who have made it to the final table from a starting field of 1,031. All three Canadians qualified for the PCA Main Event through online tournaments on PokerStars. They are each guaranteed at least $173,220 USD (prize for the eighth place finisher), but their eyes will be set on a bigger prize: the title and $1.8 million USD pay day for the Main Event winner.
Held at Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas every January, the PCA is the largest poker event outside of Las Vegas. It attracts poker players from all over the world. The last Canadian to win the PCA Main Event was Torontonian Poorya Nazari in 2009. With three players fighting to bring the title back to Canada, the final table starts at 2 p.m. ET today and will be live streamed on tsn.ca.
