PETAWAWA, ON, June 19, 2025 /CNW/ - A 1.4km asphalt multi-use pathway has been constructed along Laurentian Drive after a joint investment of $435,500 from the federal government and municipal governments.
This project boosts Petawawa's existing reputation as a bicycle-friendly community and makes active transportation available to individuals using mobility and accessibility devices. As a car-free way to get around, the pathway connects the community and visitors to recreational facilities, schools, neighbourhoods, and the commercial district. It also links to the Petawawa Terrace Provincial Park, and the four-season Algonquin Trail.

- The federal government has invested $96,000 in this project through the Active Transportation Fund (ATF), and the Town of Petawawa has contributed $339,500.
- Active transportation refers to the movement of people or goods powered by human activity. It includes walking, cycling and the use of human-powered or hybrid mobility aids such as wheelchairs, scooters, e-bikes, rollerblades, snowshoes, cross-country skis, and more.
- The Active Transportation Fund was launched in 2021 to provide $400 million to make travel by active transportation easier, safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable.
- The new Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF) will provide an average of $3 billion a year of permanent funding to respond to local transit needs by enhancing integrated planning, improving access to public transit and active transportation, and supporting the development of more affordable, sustainable, and inclusive communities.
