TORONTO, June 1 /CNW/ - This Father's Day, bypass the cologne, forgo the colorful tie and show Dad you really care with a Frosty that gives back.
This Father's Day Weekend (June 19-20), Wendy's is helping Canadians treat Dad and change the lives of foster children at the same time. Wendy's fourth annual Father's Day Frosty Weekend provides an easy, tasty way to support foster care adoption and help the 30,000 children in Canada who are waiting for permanent families.
During Father's Day Weekend, Wendy's will donate $1 from every Frosty product sold to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption - Canada, a non-profit public charity dedicated to increasing the number of foster care adoptions in Canada. Before Father's Day, Wendy's customers can show their support by purchasing a Frosty pin-up for $1 with all proceeds going to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption - Canada. Pin-ups are now being sold at participating Wendy's locations across the country.
"Wendy's is very proud to be involved with this special event that supports the cause that our founder, Dave Thomas, was most passionate about - finding a permanent and loving home for every child in the foster care system," said Wendy's Canada Senior Vice President Ron Baugh, who serves on the board of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption - Canada. "This is the fourth year for Father's Day Frosty Weekend and we've set our fundraising goal at $300,000," said Mr. Baugh. "We hope families will find this an enjoyable way to celebrate Father's Day while making a difference in the lives of others."
Wendy's remains committed to supporting the cause of foster care adoption in Canada. Over the past three years, the company has raised more than $650,500 during Father's Day Frosty Weekend.
The money that is raised during the weekend will support the Dave Thomas Foundation and its signature program: Wendy's Wonderful Kids (WWK). This program fulfills a critical need by funding seven full-time adoption recruiters to match parents with foster care children, available for adoption. Over the past three years, WWK recruiters have found loving, permanent homes for 80 children.
The success of WWK is due to the ongoing partnership between the DTFA-Canada, the Wendy's system of company and franchise operated restaurants and local adoption partners. The Foundation grants funds to qualified adoption organizations, and holds the agencies accountable for achieving agreed-upon results. In 2009, the Wendy's system raised more than $1.6 million to fund local WWK programs.
"We're are extremely pleased with the success of the program but even with all of the strides the program has made, there are still thousands of children in foster care waiting to be adopted," said Rita Soronen, executive director of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
"We believe Wendy's Wonderful Kids is the solution, and that the program will become even stronger with the support of Wendy's customers during Father's Day Weekend."
Join Wendy's in supporting adoption. Stop by Wendy's during Father's Day Frosty Weekend, June 19-20, for a special treat.
