REGINA, Feb. 14, 2019 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan, along with the City of Regina and Silver Sage Holdings Ltd., officially opened a new six-unit rental housing project for families with complex needs.
The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with Warren Steinley, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Regina Walsh Acres, on behalf of the Honourable Paul Merriman, Minister of Social Services and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC), His Worship Michael Fougere, Mayor of the City of Regina, and Edmund Bellegarde, Silver Sage Board Chair, made the announcement today.
The project, which will include support services and programs provided by human services agencies, will be owned by Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. (Silver Sage). The homes, which consists of the 6 three-bedroom duplexes, will be located on two lots in close proximity, 1346 Forget Street and 5029 7th Avenue.

- This project will provide permanent housing for families with complex needs. The project consists of the construction of 6 three-bedroom duplexes, each averaging 1,198 ft2
- The Government of Canada, through CMHC, along with the Government of Saskatchewan, through SHC, jointly contributed $900,100 toward the construction of the six units under the Canada-Saskatchewan Social Infrastructure Fund Allocation Increase.
- An additional $150,000 in funding was provided by the City of Regina.
- Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. contributed approximately $1 million in the form of cash/land equity and mortgage financing.
- The Government of Canada is currently rolling out its National Housing Strategy (NHS), an ambitious 10-year, $40 billion plan that will create 100,000 new housing units and lift 530,000 families out of housing need, as well as repair and renew more than 300,000 housing units and reduce chronic homelessness by 50 per cent.
- This investment supports Saskatchewan's Housing Strategy, Poverty Reduction Strategy and Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan goal of ensuring Saskatchewan people have affordable, safe, secure and stable housing.
