New density of 7 million traces per km2 eclipses Explor's previous record of 5 million seismic traces per km2. Daily production record at over 10,500 source points.
CALGARY, Nov. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - Explor Geophysical Ltd. ("Explor") announces that it has just completed acquisition of a high-density 3D seismic survey that attained trace densities ranging from 5 million to 7 million seismic traces per square kilometer, beating their previous record. Over 124,000 source points were acquired on a single 150 km2 3D seismic survey.
Operating in completely stakeless mode, Explor also set a new record for single-day source production with over 10,500 source points acquired in 24 hours – an average rate of over 430 source points per hour. Explor averaged a source point every 9 seconds over the 13-day acquisition period.
"High density data is the basis for reduced risk and improved business decisions and has the ability to drive significant value for our clients. Explor's focus on data quality is in lock-step with our drive to step-change efficiency improvements, enabling Explor to deliver much higher density data at a fraction of the cost per trace." - Allan Châtenay, President, Explor
Since 2014, Explor has been leading the drive for greater trace densities in the Canadian market, moving from legacy densities of 50,000 traces per km2 to over 7 million traces per km2, over 100 times greater trace densities. This allows Explor to deliver images of the sub-surface that reveal features that are not visible with existing seismic datasets.
Explor achieved this using the largest static seismic receiver spread in Canadian history, with over 20,000 3-component seismic receivers recording continuously for 24 hours per day.
Explor is a privately held Canadian company that acquires high quality geophysical data with minimal environmental impact. Explor employs a team of qualified scientists across a range of scientific disciplines as well as project teams and logistics experts to accomplish its objectives through a rigorous continuous improvement process. Explor specializes in challenging and extraordinary projects.
