EXFO Announces Increased Next-Gen Test Capabilities for Deploying 10G
Ethernet over OTN
Expanded test capabilities enable cost-efficient deployment of 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN services over optical transport networks (OTNs)
Available on the FTB-8130NG Next-Generation SONET/SDH Test Module and the FTB-8130NGE Next-Generation Multiservice Test Module, this enhanced support for next-gen and optical network test functions gives field technicians the ability to directly map 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN signals into standard rate ODU2 containers using GFP-F mapping, as per ITU-T G.7041 standard. This capability will become a critical tool for service providers as the demand for Ethernet transport over optical transport network (OTN) networks continues to increase.
In addition, this software release also introduces a number of enhancements to the DSn capabilities including automatic detection of DS1 and DS3 signal parameters. As DS1/DS3 testing remains a present aspect of the field technician's day-to-day activities, this added capability will result in increased efficiency as technicians typically have to test a large number of circuits and do not always know the exact settings for each circuit. Also available is the ability to use the tester in NIU/CSU Emulation mode and to act as a DS1 loopback device, which will facilitate testing from a central location to the device, including interworking with currently installed central office test heads.
Additional features also available with this latest software release also include SONET/SDH payload block and replace capability for easier troubleshooting and maintenance.
"As 10G Ethernet is becoming mainstream into the carrier's offerings, service providers are facing numerous challenges in deploying and maintaining next-generation packet transport networks (PTNs),"said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "EXFO is committed to helping our customers with the best tools on the market to enable them to easily test and integrate the latest technologies within their network, allowing them to offer better service to their customers."
These additional test capabilities are also available on the IQS-81xx Transport/Power Blazer line. For more information about the FTB-81xx and the IQS-81xx Transport/Power Blazer line of test modules, please visit www.EXFO.com.
