Recovery Ottawa and Respect Rx launching to address Ottawa's increasing addiction issues
OTTAWA, Nov. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Ottawa, like the rest of Canada, is facing a public health crisis with rising rates of opioid dependence and other substance abuse issues. Challenges like long wait times and social stigma mean many people battling addiction have trouble getting the treatment they desperately need. In fact, according to Ottawa Public Health, 7,268 Ottawa residents sought out treatment for substance misuse from 2011 to 2012 and they faced significant wait times. 1 Thankfully, this National Addictions Awareness Week (November 18 - 24), a new centre for treatment excellence will open its doors.
Recovery Ottawa and Respect Rx Pharmasave are a full-service treatment facility and pharmacy. Their on-site physicians, nurses, counsellors, case managers, pharmacists and caring staff will provide individuals with immediate access to quality and compassionate care for their addiction, but also for related issues such as homelessness, hepatitis C, HIV, and criminal justice issues. And, together with their partners at the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa, Recovery Ottawa will offer education and training to medical students, residents and family doctors in the assessment and treatment of addiction.
