"The potential with Ethan [Young] is just so exciting." – Boy George
TORONTO, Feb. 14, 2018 /CNW/ - CTV unveiled its sixth and final chosen artist on tonight's penultimate episode of CTV's THE LAUNCH. Ethan Young from Toronto proved to be bigger than goliath, as the 13-year-old was the final artist chosen to record the new original single "Giants." The series' sixth single was released to radio stations across the country immediately following tonight's broadcast, and is also now available to buy and stream everywhere, including iHeartRadio, Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, and Google Play.
Mentors Culture Club alumnus and Grammy® Award-winner Boy George, Grammy®-Award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Alessia Cara, Canadian Oscar and Grammy-nominated producer extraordinaire Stephan Moccio, and record mogul Scott Borchetta decided to launch Ethan Young's music career with his anthemic version of "Giants."
The first four consecutive singles from THE LAUNCH chosen artists (POESY's "Soldier of Love", Logan Staats "The Lucky Ones", Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine's "Ain't Easy", and The Static Shift's "Wide Awake") soared to #1 on iTunes Canada, while Jayd Ink's "Codes" debuted at #7 on iTunes' pop chart. All songs released have surpassed more than 3 million streams internationally to date.
"Getting this opportunity to appear on THE LAUNCH has been such an honour," said Ethan Young. "I am so grateful for the chance to be launched across Canada and I cannot wait to hear my song 'Giants' on the radio."
"Ethan has a real star quality," said Scott Borchetta. "His voice is powerful and genuine and you can't help but be blown away when he steps into a room. We may have found Canada's next homegrown pop star."
Streaming now on various platforms including CTV.ca, CTV GO, and CraveTV™, THE LAUNCH: DIRECTOR'S CUT features extended auditions of Grace Bakker, Elequen, and the newly launched Ethan Young, as well as, Victoria Azevedo and Raymond Salgado, who are featured exclusively in the On Demand version of the episode. The special edition also features comprehensive mentor reactions, feedback, and never-before-seen moments from THE LAUNCH that take the viewer deeper into the once in a lifetime opportunity for each of the artists.
Following an extraordinary audition process before the celebrity mentors, aspiring artists Ethan Young and Grace Bakker emerged as the two breakthrough artists chosen to perform and make the original song "Giants" their own.
After an intense 48 hours in studio rehearsals, recordings, and working with the episode's celebrity mentors including a surprise guest appearance by Alessia Cara, the final artists took the stage in front of a live studio audience to perform their interpretations of "Giants."
Two, individually tailored renditions of the song resulted in charismatic performances by both aspiring artists, but following intense deliberations, Ethan Young was ultimately chosen for the opportunity of a lifetime – to have his version of the song "Giants" launched across Canada and to the world via THE LAUNCH's expansive slate of top music partners.
Following tonight's song launch, Bell Media is poised to throw the full weight of its marketing, promotional, and publicity support behind Ethan Young "Giants" across its national footprint of broadcast and digital entertainment properties.
"Giants" is written by Stephan Moccio and Talay Riley. The song is produced by Stephan Moccio. Label: Big Machine Canada and Universal Music Canada. Executive Producers are Scott Borchetta and Randy Lennox.
Singer-songwriter Ethan Young's love for performance and songwriting began at a very young age. While attending Karen Kain School of the Arts, Ethan became one of the famed Mini Pop Kids, performing for sold out audiences across Ontario.
