TORONTO, Sept. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - The Toronto Catholic District School Board's Canadian Martyrs Catholic School (Toronto) and the Upper Grand District School Board's Maryborough Public School (Moorefield) are being profiled in the Education Quality and Accountability Office's (EQAO's) Provincial Elementary School Report, released today, for their committed efforts and success improving student achievement.
Fourteen elementary schools across the province are being profiled this year. Each has been identified because of the notable improvement in its EQAO results over time. Each school team has shared how EQAO and other data have been used to guide instructional programs, which in turn have helped improve the literacy and numeracy skills of students.
"We use the data provided by EQAO, as well as school and board data, to build our school improvement plan and guide our progress. We determine our needs and set our focus for the year. I am very proud of the staff at Canadian Martyrs Catholic School, who works together creating a very positive learning environment for our students."
— Luigi Pennacchio, Principal, Canadian Martyrs Catholic School
"We use the EQAO data to help us make informed decisions about our next steps. We always make the numbers relevant and real by relating them to each student."
— Jonathan Walker, Principal, Maryborough Public School
"The schools being profiled this year are being recognized for their success improving student learning and for their effective use of EQAO data to help guide their reflective practice. Their remarkable outcomes are a testament to how good information in the hands of dedicated professionals can be a winning combination for supporting student achievement. These school stories will no doubt serve to inspire other schools across the province."
— Bruce Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer, EQAO
